QUICK START GIVES MANITOBA WIN OVER PEI Charlottetown, PEI – Ashley Jaffray scored two goals in the opening 4:05 to lift Team Manitoba to the gold medal in the senior women’s event of the Esso Women’s Nationals on Saturday. Deena Caplette also scored for Manitoba in the first as the team got out to a 3-0 lead just over five minutes in. Tracy Knowles of PEI scored to make it 3-1. But Crystal Rochon scored for Manitoba in the second and Aimee Collins found the back of the net in the third for the win. The teams were tied in shots at 29-29. Team PEI, despite losing this game, took centre stage at the 2008 Esso Women’s Nationals. The club won four straight games to reach the final and hundreds of fans cheered the players throughout the week.
