Canada Still Undefeated at Air Canada Cup

Canada’s National Women’s Under 22 Team defeated Switzerland by a score of 10-1 to improve to a 2-0 record at the Air Canada Cup in Duisburg, Germany.  The Swiss were coming off a 3-0 victory over Germany in their tournament opener, but were not able to match Canada on Friday night.

Katie Weatherston opened the scoring for Canada at the 3:35 mark of the first.   Switzerland tied the game mid way through the period when Claudia Riechsteiner banged a centering pass past Britni Kehler on a power play.   However, Canada was in control by the end of the period after Meghan Agosta and Meaghan Mikkelson scored to provide a 3-1 lead at intermission.   Team

Canada doubled their goal totoal in the second period with contributions from Sarah Vaillancourt, Ashley Riggs and Chelsea Grills.  In the third period, Riggs completed her hat trick, while Meghan Agosta added her second of the night.  Noemie Marin rounded out the scoring for Canada.

The next action for Team Canada will come on Saturday at 5:00pm German time as they take on Germany in their final round robin game at the Air Canada Cup.  The team with the most points at the end of the round robin will be declared tournament champions.  Canada’s 2-0 record heading into the final day of competition puts them in a good position to be able to defend the Air Canada Cup title that they have won the past two seasons.
