KASDORF LEADS THRASHERS TO WIN TO CAP OFF ROUND ROBIN

SELKIRK, Man. – Jason Kasdorf certainly took advantage of his moment in the spotlight at the 2009 TELUS Cup.

Kasdorf, who played just one game for the Winnipeg Thrashers during the Manitoba playoffs and watched Brett Gagnon play every minute of the Thrashers’ first four games at the National Midget Championship, turned in a Player of the Game performance on Friday night, stopping 23 shots to lead Winnipeg to a 4-1 win over the Rousseau Sports du Laval-Bourassa.

The win wraps up second place in the round robin for the Thrashers (4-1), who will face the Calgary Buffaloes in Saturday’s late semifinal (6 p.m. CT).

Colin Mospanchuk, Craig Scott, Jeremy Olinyk and Alex Kampen notched the goals for Winnipeg, while Michael Hay, Brett Overwater and Nolan Zajac – who earned the tournament’s Top Scorer award with 13 points in the round robin – had two assists apiece.

Mospanchuk’s power play marker early in the second was all the offence Kasdorf and the Thrashers needed. Scott and Olinyk added goals on the man advantage in the third period and Kampen rounded out the scoring late.

Felipe Corbo spoiled Kasdorf’s shutout bid late with the lone goal for Laval-Bourassa (1-2-2), who will face the top-ranked Notre Dame Hounds in the first semifinal on Saturday (2 p.m. CT).
