Westlake’s second goal lifts Canada over Norway

Greg Westlake had a pair for the Canadians, including the overtime winner, to lead the Canadians to a 4-3 victory over the Norwegians on Wednesday night.

The Norwegians opened the scoring in the second period when tournament-leading scorer Rolf Einar Pedersen notched his fifth goal of the tournament. Pedersen struck again with just two minutes remaining in the period to give the Norwegians a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

Canada showed new life in the third when Jean Labonte found the back of the net on the power play. Then in a two-minute span Billy Bridges hooked up with both Westlake and Bradley Bowden to give the Canadians their first lead in the game.

But with just under three minutes to go in the game the tournament-leading scorer, Pedersen, notched his seventh goal to send it to overtime.

In overtime it was the Canadians who prevailed when Westlake had a partial break and beat Norwegian netminder Roger Johansen to send the packed house in to frenzy.

Canada remains the only un-beaten team in the tournament and have the day off tomorrow before hitting the ice again on Friday against the Germans.
