Team Canada Update: Dec. 14, 2000

Day 2 of Canada's National Junior Team's Selection Camp has come and gone as 34 of Canada's best young hockey players vye for one of the 22 spots on the 2001 National Junior Team.

Both teams practiced for just over an hour in the morning. Team Red had some additional responsabilities in the afternoon as each player was interviewed by TSN for features that will air during TSN's co verage of the World Junior Hockey Championship in Russia.

And finally, game time. The first intersquad game was played in front of a great crowd at the Beatrice Ice Gardens. Many scouts were in attendance as were many hockey fans looking for a glimpse od Canada's Christmas hockey team.

Jamie Lundmark opened the scoring for Team Red and that goal held up until the third. Luke Sellars made it 2-0 before Brad Boyes put Team White on the board. Red made it 3-1 on a goal from Kurtis Foster less then two minutes later.

Dany Heatley made it 3-2 late in the game but Mike Zigomanis scored into an empty net to make the final Team Red 4 Team White 2.

All four goaltenders turned in solid performances. Maxime Ouellet stopped the 13 shots he faced. Alex Auld went 18 for 19, Rob Zepp 13 for 15 and Pascal Leclaire went 14 for 16.

Red and White are at it again on Friday, with the game beginning at 5:30 pm ET.
