TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS

One year after falling one win short of the provincial championship – and with it a berth in the 2015 Esso Cup – the Yellowhead Chiefs captured their first MFMHL regular season title. The Chiefs opened the season 8-0, with half of those wins coming via shutout, and finished the 2015 portion of their schedule 11-3, with two of those losses coming in shootouts. Yellowhead then started 2016 with 11 straight wins (and four more shutouts). A 3-1 mark against the second-place Pembina Valley Hawks provided breathing room atop the standings, as did registering at least one point in all but two games. Sam Geekie, Hannah Fouillard and Tatum Amy finished among the top 10 in scoring, leading a charge of 13 players who finished with at least 10 points. Emma Greenwood (1.01 goals-against average) and Miranda Cook (1.21) backstopped the league’s stingiest defence, allowing only 31 goals in 28 games.
