Road to the 2018 RBC Cup: SJHL
The Nipawin Hawks finished No. 1 in GA, PP and PK to end an 18-year regular-season title drought
The 18-year drought is over – the Nipawin Hawks are regular-season champions in the SJHL. The Hawks topped the standings on the Prairies for the first time since 1999-2000 thanks to a strong … well, everything. Nipawin led the SJHL in goals against (131), power play (23.4%) and penalty killing (85.9%), and was No. 2 in goals scored (232). The Hawks were also the only team to post a double-digit win streak, running off 10-consecutive Ws from Dec. 5-Jan. 6. Josh McDougall was the offensive catalyst, racking up 57 assists (third-most in the SJHL) and taking fifth in league scoring, while Jake Anthony and Declan Hobbs shared the workload between the pipes, finishing one-two in goals-against average.
