CALGARY, ALBERTA – After suffering a groin injury in Tuesday’s practice at the National Junior Team Development Camp in Calgary, David Shantz of the Mississauga Ice Dogs (OHL) will be unable to participate in the remainder of the camp.  As a result, Kevin Nastiuk of the Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL) has been called in to be his replacement Hockey Canada announced on Wednesday.

Nastiuk, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, has played the past three seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL).  In 2003-04, Nastiuk had a career season with 40 wins and 4 shutouts during the regular season and led his team to a WHL Championship.  Kevin was named the WHL Playoff MVP by backstopping the Tigers to a 16-4 record, posting a 1.97 GAA in the playoffs and matching his regular season total with 4 shutouts.  Kevin was drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 4th round, 126th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.  With the injury to Shantz, both Ryan Munce and Devan Dubnyk will switch over and play for Team White, while Réjean Beauchemin and Kevin Nastiuk will backstop Team Red.

The National Junior Team Development Camp Red/White Intersquad Game #2 goes tonight at 6:00pm MT at Father David Bauer Arena in Calgary and is open to the public free of charge.  The Development Camp is a great opportunity to watch and support Canada’s young stars as they prepare for the 2005 World Junior Championship.
