BATHURST, N.B. - After five days of competition at the 2002 Air Canada Cup National Midget Hockey Championship, the Gold medal game will oppose the Dartmouth Subways (Atlantic Region) and the Tisdale Trojans (West Region) at 1:00 p.m. (Atlantic Time), 12:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) on Sunday at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.

The Subways, who finished the round robin portion of the championship in fourth place with a 2-2-1 record, defeated the Red Deer Chiefs (Pacific Region) 5-4 in Saturday’s first semi-final game. Sidney Crosby (10 goals, 12 assists in the championship) led his team to the victory with two goals and two assists, while teammate Andrew Gordon added three assists. Crosby’s game-winning goal was his third of the championship. Sunday’s game will mark the first appearance for the Subways in the championship final. In last year’s championship, the Subways were defeated 4-3 in overtime by the Toronto Young Nationals in the Bronze medal game.

In Saturday’s second semi-final game, the Tisdale Trojans defeated Les Riverains du College Charles-Lemoyne 4-1. The tournament’s top defenceman, Shaun Heshka, scored a goal and added an assist, helping his team to victory. Brett Parker and Tyrell Shepherd also each netted a goal and an assist for the Trojans. Tisdale will be looking for a first Air Canada Cup Championship title, and the first for the West Region since 1999 when the Regina Pat Canadians won the Air Canada Cup.

The Red Deer Chiefs will face C.C. Lemoyne in the Bronze medal game at 9:00 a.m. (Atlantic Time), 8:00 a.m. (Eastern Time) at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.

The Championship game will be broadcast live across Canada by The Sports Network (TSN) and Réseau des Sports (RDS) at 1:00 p.m. (Atlantic Time), 12:00 p.m. (Eastern Time).
