CALGARY, Alta. – An independent audit, completed by Samson and Associates CPA/Consulting Inc., has confirmed Hockey Canada’s full compliance with Government of Canada contribution agreements between 2018 and 2022.

“The Government of Canada is an integral partner in promoting Canada’s game and ensuring communities across the country have access to safe and accessible hockey programming,” said Hugh Fraser, chair of the Hockey Canada Board of Directors. “We have made significant progress in addressing the government’s concerns to date, and are grateful for the auditor’s review, which serves as another important step in repairing our partnership.”

The audit reviewed programming expenses between April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2022 as a condition of future Government of Canada funding, which was frozen in June 2022. The audit also provides assurances that no public funding was used to pay for legal settlements or related legal fees.

To date, Hockey Canada has taken significant steps to regain the trust of the Government of Canada and of all Canadians. In response to the government’s concerns, the organization has disclosed all documentation requested by the government, become a full signatory to the Office of the Integrity Commissioner, and has a new Board of Directors.

Hockey Canada welcomes the supplementary recommendations made as part of the audit and will consider them fully as part of our ongoing efforts to rebuild our organization with a focus on transparency and accountability.
