National Men's Team Finish in Third Place at The Spengler Cup

DAVOS, SWITZERLAND - Canada's National Men’s Team finished the Spengler Cup with a 3-2 win on Thursday over IHF Helsinki to finish with a 3-1 record, giving the team a third place finish.

Canada opened up the tournament with a 5-2 win over HC Metallurg on December 26th , followed the next day by a 3-2 shootout win over the host team, Davos. Canada’s only loss at the Spengler Cup was on Wednesday to Sparta Prague 4-2, before finishing out the event today with a 3-2 win over IHF Helsinki.

Davos finished the round robin in first with a 3-0-0-1 record, good for 7 points. Canada and Sparta Prague both finish with identical records of 3-1 and 6 points a piece; however, Canada loses to Sparta Prague in the head-to-head tie breaker when they lost 4-2.  Davos will play Sparta Prague on December 31 in the Championship game at the Spengler Cup to determine both 1st and 2nd place.

With its third place finish this year, Canada ends its streak of consecutive Spengler Cup championships at two (20).

The next tournament for Canada’s National Men’s Team will be the Hungarian Cup in Budapest, Hungary in February.

Canada’s players will disperse to their various destinations across Europe and North America. The schedule for players and coaches returning to North America is as follows:
