Men's National Team Wins One, Ties One in Two-Game Series in France
GRENOBLE, France -- Chris Herperger of Stockholm, SK, scored the only goal for Canada on Wednesday as the Men's National Team played the French National Team to a 1-1 draw in an international hockey game.
On Tuesday, Gaetan Royer of Donnacona, QC, scored the winner as Team Canada downed France 4-2 in Amiens. Mickey Elick of Calgary, Rod Stevens of Fort St. John, BC, and Randy Perry of Spruce Grove, AB, also scored for Canada in that game.
Christian Bronsard of Orleans, ON played goal for Team in both games, which followed Canada's second-place finish in the four-country Deutschland Cup tournament last weekend in Fussen and Munich, Germany. Last spring, Bronsard, 20, was one of the heroes for the Hull Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League as they won the Memorial Cup championship.
Dominic Roussel of Blainville, QC, had played all three games in net for Canada during the Deutschland Cup tournament.
Team Canada was scheduled to return to Canada on Thursday to begin a three-week training block before departing again for Europe on Dec. 11. The club will play a pair of games against the Czech Republic and two more against Slovakia before heading for Switzerland to play in the Switzerland Cup against the host Swiss, as well as the national teams from Slovakia and Germany.
Team Canada will also compete at the prestigious Spengler Cup tournament in Davos, Switzerland from Dec. 26-31.
