CALGARY, Alta. – Forty of Canada’s top women’s under-18 players will arrive in Calgary tomorrow for the National Women’s Under-18 Team selection camp, set for July 23-30 at Father David Bauer Olympic Arena.

The players in camp will be competing for 22 spots on Canada’s roster that will face the United States’ Women’s Under-18 Select Team in a three-game series in Calgary from August 24-27. Canada has won four of the six summer meetings all-time with the United States. The final roster for the series will be announced in early August.

The 40 players will be split into two rosters – Red and White – and will practice throughout the week, as well as playing four intersquad games. The teams will play at 5-on-5 on Saturday, July 25 and Thursday, July 30, and at 4-on-4 on Sunday, July 26 and Monday, July 27. The players will be split into four groups for 3-on-3 games on Wednesday, July 29.

Canada’s coaching staff, comprised of head coach Dan Church (Toronto, Ont./York University, CIS) and assistant coaches Pierre Alain (Mirabel, Que./St-Jérôme, Collégial AA) and Lisa Jordan (Westville, N.S./St. Mary’s University, CIS), will use the camp to select the 22 players to represent Canada against the United States.

Following the three-game series, Hockey Canada’s regional scouts, along with the National Women’s Under-18 Team coaching staff, will evaluate players at the 2009 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in Surrey, B.C. and with their club teams, with the goal of selecting a team for the 2010 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship, March 27 to in the United States.
