CALGARY, ALBERTA – Hockey Canada announced on Wednesday that Lisa Jordan, assistant coach with the Women’s Under-22 program the past two seasons as Lisa McDonald, has been named the Head Coach of Canada’s National Women’s Under-22 team for the 2005-06 season. Forty of the best under-22 women’s players in Canada will gather in Calgary, AB for a Development and Selection Camp August 12-21, followed by a three game series versus Canada’s Women’s Olympic centralized hockey team, August 23, 25 and 26 in Calgary.

This year’s camp will feature a three team tournament which is made up of the 40 Canadian Under-22 players split in to two teams of 20, and the Finnish National Women’s Team. At the conclusion of the camp, 18 of Canada’s Under-22 players will be joined by the four eligible Under-22 players with the Canada’s Women’s National Centralized Team (Meghan Agosta, Tessa Bonhomme, Ashley Riggs, and Sarah Vaillancourt) and compete against Canada’s National Women’s Centralized Team in a three game series on August 23, 25, and 26 in Calgary, AB.

Jordan will be joined behind the bench by assistant coaches Barry Medori (Head Coach, Edmonton Chimos - WWHL), and Lesley Jordan (Head Coach, Dalhousie University Women’s Program), who is the twin sister of Head Coach, Lisa.

Lisa Jordan, 32, an NCCP Advanced level I certified coach, has been the Head Coach of Saint Mary’s University’s women’s hockey program for the past eight seasons. She has been the assistant coach for Canada’s National Women’s Under-22 team for the past two seasons (2003-2005), capturing the European Under-22 Air Canada Cup held in Germany in both 20.The Westville, NS native has led the Huskies to the CIS National Championships in three of her eight years as the Huskies’ Head Coach (1998, 2003, 2004). She was a co-recipient of the CIS Coach of the Year in 2002-03, and as a player, represented Nova Scotia at the 1996 Esso Women’s Nationals and the 1991 Canada Winter Games.

Medori spent last season as the Head Coach of the WWHL’s Edmonton Chimos, and led the team to a silver medal at the 2005 WWHL Finals in Calgary, AB. He won the gold medal as the assistant coach of Team Alberta (male) at the Canada Winter Games in 2003 held in Bathurst, NB. Barry was also the Head Coach of the silver medalist, Team Pacific (male) at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Stonewall, MB. Additional Program of Excellence experience includes being the Head Coach of the female Under-18 team in 2004. Barry was also a part of the pre-scouting staff at the 2005 IIHF World Women’s Championship in Linkoping, Sweden.

Lesley Jordan has been the Head Coach of the Dalhousie University Women’s Program since 2002, prior to that she was the Head Coach of the Women’s program at Acadia University (2000-02) and an assistant coach at Saint Mary’s University (1998-00). She is currently taking her Advanced Level II coaching certification. More recently, Lesley attended the IIHF Development Camp in July of 2004 and was part of the pre-scouting staff at the 2005 IIHF World Women’s Championship in Linkoping, Sweden. She has had extensive coaching and evaluating experience with the Program of Excellence in Nova Scotia from 20.

Canada’s National Under-22 Women's team is the first step in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence aimed at women aged 18-21 playing hockey. The first year for the Under-22 Women's program was 1998, with the team participating in the Christmas Cup in Unna, Germany. It allows them to experience international competition and identifies the players that have potential to move on to the National Women’s Team.
