CALGARY – Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, announced on Wednesday the 22 players who will make up Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team at the 2007 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka, which will be held in the Czech Republic and Slovakia from August 14-18. » more

COVERAGE

Team Canada will be hunting for its fourth-straight gold medal at the 2007 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka, from Aug. 14-18 in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Unfortunately, there is no television or radio coverage of the event.

But Hockey Canada will post results throughout each Team Canada game, along with stories following the final whistle.

WHO WAS IVAN HLINKA?

Arguably the most important figure in Czech hockey, and undoubtedly one of the best players in his country’s history, Ivan Hlinka was a teenage hockey star, making his debut in the Czechoslovak league at the tender age of 16.

By 20 he was the captain of his Litvinov team and a member of the Czechoslovak national team, for whom he played 256 games with, scoring 132 goals. » more

 

CANADA'S NATIONAL MEN'S SUMMER UNDER-18 TEAM AT THE 2007 MEMORIAL OF IVAN HLINKA, WHICH WILL BE HELD IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC AND SLOVAKIA FROM AUGUST 14-18

Team Canada will face Team Slovakia in exhibition action in Piestany, Slovakia on August 12th at 7 p.m. local (1 p.m. ET). Canada will begin defence of its title on August 14th against Team Sweden in Hodonin, Czech Republic at 3:30 p.m. local (9:30 a.m. ET). Canada has won 10 of the past 11 summer under-18 tournaments.

NATIONAL MEN’S SUMMER UNDER-18 TEAM TO SHOWCASE FORMER
UNDER-17 TALENT !

There may not have been a World Under-17 Challenge in 2007 – it was replaced by the Canada Winter Games, as it is every four years – but there was plenty of Under-17 talent on display in Whitehorse.

Of the 40 players at the National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp this week, 38 of them took part in the Canada Winter Games – including eight members of the gold medal-winning Team Ontario.

NATIONAL MEN'S UNDER-18 TEAM

Hockey Canada will be sending a team of the nation's most talented young players to two events.

The Ivan Hlinka Under-18 Memorial Tournament (formerly Jr. World Cup) takes place in August in the Czech Republic and Slovkia.

In the Spring of 2008 Team Canada will compete at the IIHF World Men's Under-18 Championship in Europe.

 

DAVE BARR NAMED HEAD COACH OF CANADA’S 2007 NATIONAL MEN’S SUMMER UNDER-18 TEAM
