It was a tight race to the finish to determine who would top the SMAAAHL standings, but by going 8-2-0 in its final 10 games, Regina managed to land in the no.1 spot with a six-point cushion over the Moose Jaw Generals. Last year’s TELUS Cup bronze medallists had the league’s third highest scoring offence (150 goals for) in 2015-16, but it was on defence that they excelled, allowing a league-low 88 goals against, 15 fewer than their closest rivals. Regina’s Curtis Meger was obviously stellar between the pipes, tying for the league lead in wins (19), posting the best goals-against average (1.68) and tying for the second-best save percentage (.931). Up front, the Pat Canadians were led by Ty Barnstable (53 points) and Turner Ripplinger (46 points), who respectively finished tied for fourth and tenth among the SMAAAHL’s top scorers.
