TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – HALIFAX MCDONALDS
New name, same success. After a one-year hiatus from the top of the standings – and a longer break from the McDonalds name it used when it made three trips to Canada’s National Midget Championship during the 1980s and 1990s – Halifax returned to first place in the NSMMHL in 2013-14. The McDonalds outlasted Cole Harbour for top spot, finishing four points up on the Wolfpack, thanks in large part to their defence, which allowed just 74 goals in 34 games, 14 less than second-place Cole Harbour. Goaltenders Reilly Pickard (2.00) and Justin Ritcey (2.31), who won the Atlantic Region title last year with the Valley Wildcats, were first and tied for third, respectively in the league in goals-against average. Up front, NSMMHL top scorer Luc Poirier led an offence that scored 147 times, third-best behind the Wolfpack (155) and Newbridge Academy (148).
