Perry leads a 22-player roster in the nation’s defence of the world title with assistance from Matt Duchene (Haliburton, Ont./Colorado, NHL) and Ryan O’Reilly (Varna, Ont./Buffalo, NHL), who were both part of the squad that went undefeated at the 2015 IIHF World Championship to capture Canada’s first gold medal in eight years.

“This is an energetic young team, and these three players bring a mixture of youth and experience in their leadership role on the ice and in the dressing room,” said Bill Peters, head coach, Canada’s National Men’s Team. “Their resumes speak for themselves – they know what it takes to compete at the highest level, and have all been part of pulling together Team Canada successes during these short-term events.”

Canada blanked the Czech Republic 3-0 in an exhibition game on Tuesday to close out its pre-competition camp in Prague. The team arrived in St. Petersburg on Wednesday and opens the 2016 IIHF World Championship against the United States on Friday, May 6, with preliminary-round games scheduled through Tuesday, May 17. The bronze- and gold-medal games will be hosted in Moscow on Sunday, May 22.

Fans who can’t make the trip to Russia to cheer on Team Canada can catch the action on television with Hockey Canada’s broadcast partners. TSN will broadcast all 64 tournament games, while RDS will carry all Team Canada games, as well as the four quarter-finals, two semifinals, and both medal games.

Since 1931, Canada has won the world championship 19 times – not counting the years when Olympic Winter Games gold-medallists were also considered world champions. The country has also collected 11 silver medals and six bronze in that timespan.
