World Championships on Record Pace With Over 75,000 Tickets Sold to Date – ‘Go for Gold' Pack on Sale This Friday
WINNIPEG, MANITOBA – The 2007 IIHF World Women's Hockey Championship (WWHC) is excited to announce that it has already sold over 75,000 tickets for this April’s anticipated event being hosted in Winnipeg and Selkirk.
“We are currently on record pace with the World Championship,” stated Host Organizing Committee Event Chair Polly Craik. “The community’s response has been outstanding as of late, and with just under four weeks until opening face off we are on track to break the all time attendance record.”
Halifax, who hosted the last World Women’s Hockey Championship on Canadian soil back in 2004, currently holds the all time tournament attendance record with 94,000.
A three game mini pack called the ‘Go for Gold’ package which includes a ticket to the Gold Medal Game, the Bronze Medal game and a Team Canada game of the customer’s choice, is also going on sale to the public tomorrow. The Go for Gold Packages starts at only $45.00.
“The Go for Gold package is expected to be another big hit for us,” stated Craik. “It gives fans who have limited schedules the opportunity to see the two premiere medal games of the tournament, as well as one other Team Canada game of their choice.”
Tickets for the 2007 IIHF World Women’s Hockey Championship can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at (204) 780-3333 or (204) 669-3333, or by visiting www.ticketmaster.ca/iihf.
The hosting of the 2007 IIHF World Women’s Championship in Winnipeg and Selkirk, MB, will mark the fifth time that this international event has been staged in Canada and the first time it will be held in Manitoba.
Canada also hosted the IIHF World Women’s Hockey Championship in 2004 (Halifax, NS), in 2000 (Mississauga, ON), in 1997 (Kitchener, ON), and in 1990 (Ottawa, ON). In 2006, there is no IIHF World Championship for women’s hockey in lieu of the Olympic Winter Games. Canada has won a gold medal at eight of the nine IIHF World Women’s Championships, the exception being a silver medal at the 2005 IIHF World Women’s Championship in Linkoping, Sweden, after losing to the USA in a shoot out.
