Hockey Canada's Annual General Meeting Begins Friday in Winnipeg, MB

CALGARY – A number of initiatives relating to amateur hockey in Canada will be discussed when the Annual General Meeting of Hockey Canada takes place from May 18-20, 2007 in Winnipeg, MB.

More than 400 representatives from regional and provincial hockey associations in Canada will meet in Winnipeg for Hockey Canada’s AGM. All meetings will be held at the Delta Winnipeg beginning Friday, May 18th

Hockey Canada’s Board of Directors will be joined by Hockey Canada’s Life Members, partner organizations and Hockey Canada’s Councils – female, junior, minor, senior, and hockey development – to discuss a number of initiatives all for the benefit of the development of hockey in Canada. Among the items on the this year’s Hockey Canada AGM agenda are:

  • Parent education forum and presentation
  • Hockey Canada’s strategic plan and objectives for 2007-08
  • Shortage of athletic facilities in Canada
  • Acknowledgement of departing board members
  • Establishing the locations of future National Championships
  • Discussion on the 2008 IIHF World Championship in Quebec City and Halifax
  • Look ahead to the 2008 Hockey Canada AGM in Quebec City
  • Look back at the 2007 IIHF World Women’s Championship in Winnipeg
  • Discussion of the format of the Esso Women’s Nationals
  • Election of Hockey Canada board members
  • Announcing of the 2006-07 Hockey Canada award winners

Friday, May 18

8:30-9 a.m. Introductory session (first plenary) – Ballroom

8:45 a.m. Press conference – special presentation and Bob Nicholson media availability – Ballroom at Delta Winnipeg Hotel

9:15-10:45 a.m. Branch Presidents’ meeting

Saturday, May 19

8:30-noon Council meetings (senior, junior, minor, female, development)

Noon-1:30 p.m. Officer/branch/staff meetings

1:30-5 p.m. Second plenary – Ballroom

Sunday, May 20

8:30 a.m.-noon Third plenary – Ballroom

Noon-1:30 p.m. Officer/branch/staff meetings

1:45-4:30 p.m. Fourth plenary (includes elections) – Ballroom

6:30 p.m. Awards banquet – Ballroom – presentation of volunteer awards
