Kodiaks Beat The Broncos in Final Round Robin Game
After getting into penalty trouble in the second period the Humboldt Broncos lost the last game of the round robin games to the Camrose Kodiaks 5-3.
The Broncos attempted to come back with two goals in the second and one in the third but the Kodiaks were too much for the Broncos to handle.
Now with three wins and one loss, the Kodiaks will meet the Lennoxville Cougars with two wins and two losses in one semifinal and the Broncos will take their two wins and two losses will meet the Wellington Dukes with a record of two wins and two losses in the other semifinal on May 10.
"We just wanted to established ourselves as a group and come in here and play a solid four games. You know we had a little hiccup in the first game but we sort of got over that. And even though we had a depleted line up here tonight we got the job done but the slate is clean now and we are worried about the next game," said Drew Campbell who had two assists for the Kodiaks on the night.
The only first period goal came from Camrose’s Brett Robertson, who scored from the blue line on a shot which when through four players and went five hole on B.J. Sklapsky the goaltender for Humboldt.
The only other good scoring chance in the first came from the Kodiaks with about 11 minutes into the first period when Scott Stewart received a pass from Dan Bertram which he rang off the right post of Sklapsky’s net.
Humboldt tied the game up with 1:17 gone in the second on a shot from Rick Freese.
But then Camrose scored with a goal by Logan Gorsalitz after Sklapsky gave up a rebound on a shot by Drew Cambell at 3:36.
Then at 9:05 of the second period Jason Fleck tipped the goal by Sklapsky on a shot from Drew Campbell who shot the puck from the bleu line.
Camrose then followed that goal up with a goal from Brett Robertson when he picked up the puck in the neutral zone, skated in on Sklapsky and put it passed him on the glove side at 10:27 of the second.
In the third Hamboldt could only manage one goal on a back handed shot from Mark Bradshaw after Sklapsky let off a big rebound from a shot from Josh Podaima.
The final goal of the period came from Camrose’s Aaron McDonald who was sitting on the goal crease when he received a pass from Logan Gorsalitz when Gorsalitz was just about to skate around the left side of the goal.
