Hockey Canada and The FAN 960 in Calgary have created Hockey Canada Frequency, a weekly radio show taking a look at hockey in Canada, from the international game to the grassroots. Guests will range from Hockey Canada staff to players and grassroots leaders, sharing their knowledge of the game.
 
 
       
   


With more than 500,000 Canadians registered in minor hockey, the question is always – how do we teach them the sport? That’s where skill development camps and skill standards and testing come in … a consistent way for players from coast to coast to learn Canada’s game.

 
 
       
   


Without the thousands of coaches who volunteer their time and step behind the bench every season, there would be no hockey in Canada. So just how can you become a coach? How can you become certified? How can you work with other coaches to become a better coach?

 
 
       
   


The officials are the third team on the ice, without whom the game would not happen. The six levels of Hockey Canada’s officiating program take officials from the lowest divisions of minor hockey through the top levels of hockey in Canada, and the international game.

 
 
       
   

 
 
       
   


With Canada’s success on the international stage, female hockey has continued to grow. Opportunities for players, coaches and officials to be involved in minor hockey and high performance programs have increased in large part to programs and events held across Canada.

 
 
       
   


Hockey Canada works diligently in promoting safety for its participants throughout the Speak Out!, Insurance, Safety and Parent Programs toward accomplishing our mission statement to lead, develop and promote positive hockey experiences.

 
 
       
   


Regional centres provide Hockey Canada with a direct link to the hockey community through seminars, clinics and initiation activities for newcomers to the game. The centres are dedicated to improving hockey and playing a leading role in the research and development of the game.

 
 
       
   
A cooperative effort between school boards, minor hockey associations and sponsors, Hockey Canada Skills Academies better utilize ice times and school facilities and move towards the development of sport schools. More than 2,500 student-athletes took part during the 2008-09 season.
