Canada captured gold at the European Air Canada Cup with a 6-1 win over the host German
team in Hanover, Germany.
Val Hall (Niagara Falls, ON) and Danielle Bourgeois (Edmonton, AB) opened up a 2-0 lead
for Canada with goals in the first period.
Meagan Hunter (Oil Springs, ON), Heather Logan (Napanee, ON) and Hall, with her second, added goals in the
second period as Canada opened up a commanding 5-0 lead through forty minutes of play.
Germany’s Becker ruined Canadian goaltender Charline Labonte’s bid for a shutout at 0:20 of the final frame,
giving the home side it’s only goal of the game. Bourgeois added her second goal five minutes later,
and Canada went on to a 6-1 win to capture the 2003 European Air Canada Cup. Bourgeois was named
Canada’s Player of the Game.
