Why They’re No. 2
With still a month left before the playoff begin in the B.C. Hockey League the Kings have already clinched a first-round bye in the Coastal Conference, and sit 18 points up on second –place Surrey thanks to the six-game winning streak they’re currently riding. As with other top teams across the country it has been the defence that has led the way – the Kings have allowed just 98 goals in 54 games, and netminder Matt Garteig leads the BCHL in wins, shutouts, goals against average and save percentage. The dynamic duo of Ryan Niddery and Matt Garbowsky leads Powell River’s offence – Garbowsky has a BCHL-leading 40 goals, while Niddery sits tied for the lead in assists, with 50.
