Canada's National Women's Team to Play for Gold Medal at 2009 IIHF World Women's Championship
HÄMEENLINNA, Finland – Canada’s National Women’s Team will play the United States for gold at the 2009 IIHF World Women’s Championship on Sunday, April 12. The game will be shown live on TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcasters, at 12 p.m. ET/10 a.m. MT/9 a.m. PT.
The two teams met in a gold medal preview on Friday, with Canada scoring a 2-1 victory. Jennifer Botterill (Winnipeg, Man./Mississauga, CWHL) and Caroline Ouellette (Montreal, Que./Montreal, CWHL) scored second-period goals to pace the Canadian offence, while Jayne Hefford (Kingston, Ont./Brampton, CWHL) earned her 200th international point, joining Hayley Wickenheiser and Danielle Goyette as the only Canadians to reach that mark.
Sunday’s game will mark the 12th-straight time that Canada and the United States have met for gold at the IIHF World Women’s Championship. The United States is the defending champion, having defeated Canada last year in Harbin, China.
Canada won its preliminary pool with wins over China and Sweden and then defeated Finland and the United States in the playoff round.
Canada’s players and staff will return to Canada on Monday, April 13. Following are the flight details for players and staff.
