CALGARY, AB - Team Canada General Manager Steve Tambellini announced Thursday, the coaching and support staffs that will be in place for two international events taking place in February: the Sweden Games and the Swiss Cup, as Canada's Men's National team looks to build on its 10-0 record in international play during the 2002-2003 season.

Tambellini, who assembles all of Canada's Men's National teams for the 2002-2003 season, including the 2003 IIHF Men's World Championship team that will play in April/May in Finland, is in the process of naming two Canadian teams for February competitions: one for the prestigious Sweden Games, which will take place in Stockholm, Sweden from February 4-9, 2003 and one for the Swiss Cup, which will be played in Basel, Switzerland from February 7-9, 2003.

The coaching staffs that Tambellini has named for these events are:

• Sweden Games: Head Coach - Gary Green Assistant Coaches - Doug Jarvis and Mike Kelly

• Swiss Cup: Head Coach - Mike Pelino Assistant Coaches - Brad McCrimmon and Mike McParland

Veteran TSN television commentator and hockey analyst Gary Green, who led Canada's 2002 Deutschland Cup team to a championship in November 2002, will again be behind the bench leading Canada at the annual Sweden Games. Green has an impressive hockey background which includes a 20-year coaching career (five National Hockey League seasons with the Washington Capitals) and a Memorial Cup championship with the Ontario Hockey League's Peterborough Petes in 1979.

Canada has participated in the Sweden Games since 1992, the year they captured their only Sweden Games championship. Last season, Canada finished fifth, in 2001 Canada was third and in 2000 Canada also placed third.

Jarvis was an assistant coach with Canada's 2002 Spengler Cup team, which captured a gold medal at the 2002 Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland in December 2002. He was an assistant coach with the Dallas Stars from 1988-2002 (1988-1993 in Minnesota), winning a Stanley Cup in 1999 and was a Stanley Cup finalist in 19.

Kelly, who assisted Marc Habschied with Canada's silver medal winning National Junior Team at the 2003 World Junior Hockey Championship in Halifax / Sydney, Nova Scotia will join Canada's National Men's Team for the second time this season. Kelly worked with Green, winning a gold medal at the 2002 Deutschland Cup in November 2002. CHA President, Bob Nicholson, recently named Kelly Head Coach of Canada's National Under-18 Team, which will participate at the 2003 World Under-18 Hockey Championship in Yaroslavl, Russia in April.

Joining the coaching staff for the Sweden Games will be a four-man support staff (all based in Calgary, AB) including team leader Scott Salmond, doctor Jim Thorne, equipment manager Jeff Lang and therapist Gord Routledge.

Pelino, in his fourth year as Coach and Manager of Canada's National Men's Program, will lead Canada behind the bench at the 2003 Swiss Cup. As Head Coach, Pelino lead Canada to a 2002 Spengler Cup title and has helped Canada to a perfect 10-0 record in 2002-03. Pelino's coaching background with Team Canada includes nine gold medals (2002 Spengler Cup, 2002 4 Nations Cup (womens), 2002 Winter Olympics, 2000 Deutschland Cup, 2000 Nagano Cup, 2000 Father David Bauer Cup, 1997 WJHC, 1996 WU18 Pacific Cup and 1991 Canada Cup).

McCrimmon, who was in his third season with the Flames, was relieved of his coaching duties in December 2002. McCrimmon played 18 seasons in the NHL, amassing 403 points (81 goals and 322 assists) in 1,222 career games and won a Stanley Cup with the Flames in 1989.

McParland has been the Head Coach of the Swiss Elite Leagues' HC Lausanne for the past two seasons and has been coaching in Switzerland since 1988. As a player, McParland played with the CIAU's Guelph Gryphons before heading to Europe to play in the Swiss National League, where he played six seasons from 1982-88, leading the league in scoring twice.

Support staff for the Swiss Cup will include Dr. Ian Auld, equipment manager Robin McDonald, therapist Kevin Wagner and video assistant Alessandro Benin.

Canada's rosters for both events will be primarily made up of Canadian born players playing in Europe or players on loan from their NHL affiliates.

Canada will also be participating in the 2003 Nagano Cup, taking place in Nagano, Japan from February 9-11, 2003. The 2002 Allan Cup champion St-Georges Garaga will represent Canada this year. More details on the Nagano Cup will be announced at a later date.
