Selection Camp News

Team Canada Update: Dec. 15, 2000

It's time to decide for the coaching staff. The first decisions must be made for early Saturday morning as five players will be returned to their junior clubs or university.

After a decisive 4-0 victory by the WHITES, avenging a loss in the first game, the coaching staff (Stan Butler, Kevin Dickie, Mike Kelly) retreated quickly with Director, Scouting Barry Trapp to go over evaluations and make some big decisions. As promised and advertised, it has been a very competitive camp and the decisions will be difficult. These are, after all, 40 outstanding hockey players who are starring with their respective teams. Some very good hockey players will be heading home in the morning.

In the second intersquad game, Krys Kolanos scored twice with singles going to Brad Boyes and Steve Ott. Ott overcame a touch of the flu to score the goal as did goaltender Alex Auld, who stopped all 24 saves he faced to combine for a shutout with Pascal Leclaire.

Canada faces a team of Ontario University all-stars on Saturday at 5:30 pm at the Beatrice Ice Gardens next. Incredibly enough, the coaching staff has but two days to make the final roster decisions as the team leaves on Monday, December 18th, for a pre-competition camp in Sweden.
