HOWE, WOODS LEAD NOTRE DAME TO 14-2 WIN

ST. ALBERT, Alta. – A 2010 Esso Cup silver medallist, there’s no doubt forward Taylor Woods (WilcoxSask.)has her sights set on gold at this year’s national championship.

Perhaps that’s why she got the hottest scoring streak so far this week started Tuesday inside ServusPlace,getting the Notre Dame Hounds (West) on the scoreboard first just four minutes into their game againsttheKings County Kings (Atlantic), then capping it off in the third to boost her team to a 14-2 win.

In total, Woods put four of those pucks into the net, Jennifer More (Deloraine, Man.) scored threeandOlivia Howe (Moose Jaw, Sask.), while Brittany Berisoff (Kelowna, B.C.) contributed a couple ofmarkersapiece to the scoresheet. Meghan Sherven (Wilcox, Sask.), Courtney Jacklin (Regina, Sask.) and KirstenToth(Aldergrove, B.C.) all had singles in the impressive win that gave Notre Dame three more points forsolidpositioning in the preliminary standings.

Although the Kings County Kings suffered a hard loss and faced a wide scoring margin, they foughthardthrough three periods of play and even scored their first two goals of the tournament. ForwardAlyssaFerguson (Murray, P.E.I.) made it 7-1 midway through the second and defenceman Laura Bradley (St.Theresa,P.E.I.) notched one of her own at 7:07 in the final frame.

Kings County will try for its first win of the Esso Cup against the Toronto Aeros (Ontario) at 12 p.m.MT,while Notre Dame faces the Kodiaks du Lac St-Louis (Québec) in Wednesday’s feature game at 8 p.m. MT.
