EDMONTON TOPS KINGS COUNTY 10-1 EN ROUTE TO SEMIFINAL

ST. ALBERT, Alta. – Heather Kashman (Edmonton, Alta.) and Jessica Sekulic (Edmonton, Alta.) bothhadhadtricks Thursday en route to the Thunder’s whopping 10-1 win over the Kings County Kings(Atlantic),keepingthe Pacific representative comfortably in first place heading into semifinals.

Both also contributed a couple of assists, for five points total, with Kashman kicking it off at 2:45inthefirst to put Edmonton in the lead nice and early, with a little help from linemates Sekulic andAlisonCampbell(Edmonton, Alta.). Campbell also had a huge impact on the scoresheet, contributing two goalsandfour assistsfor six points over three periods. That included assisting Sekulic’s marker at 14:06 to puttheThunder up 2-0going into the second.

Kashman fed Campbell to make it 3-0 just 13 seconds off the faceoff, then scoring another of herownfiveminutes in to widen the gap to 4-0. Sasha Lutz (Edmonton, Alta.), Sekulic and Campbell all addedtothescoreboard by the time the clock ran down on the second to make it 7-0.

Despite facing the 2010 bronze medallists in a difficult game, the Kings County Kings foughttheirwaythrough with dedication and determination, and Laura Bradley (St. Theresa, P.E.I.) was able to findaplaceto put the puck in the back of Notre Dame’s net less than a minute into the third. Kashman,SekulicandRachel Johnson (Edmonton, Alta.) added three more to top it off at 10-1 and give the EdmontonThunderastrong win going into semifinals.

The Kings County Kings, who are the first team from Prince Edward Island ever to compete at theEssoCup,may have wrapped up their tournament Thursday but represented their province with pride andshowedhowplaying with heart is done. The Edmonton Thunder will take on the to-be-determined team thatfinishesinfourth place Friday.
