Notre Dame defeated the Toronto Aeros (Ontario) for the second time in as many days, skating away witha5-1 win in semifinal action Friday to secure a chance to go for 2011 Esso Cup gold.

Natasha Kostenko Kostenko (Fanystelle, Man.) kicked off a first period scoring streak in the firstthreeminutes after taking a Brittany Berisoff (Kelowna, B.S.) pass. Olivia Howe (Moose Jaw, Sask.), namedtopscorer and top forward of the tournament at Thursday night’s banquet, followed up seven minutes intotheperiod on passes from Jennifer More (Deloriane, Man.) and Taylor Woods (Wilcox, Sask.) to make it 2-0.

Toronto battled hard in an attempt to make a comeback, with Hayley Masters (Horseshoe Valley,Ont.)narrowing the gap to 2-1 on an unassisted goal before the midway point of the first. But that’s as closeasthe Aeros would come to Notre Dame on the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.

The Hounds couldn’t be held back, with Howe scoring her second of the game at 17:56, again withhelpersfrom linemates More and Woods. A penalty couldn’t even slow them down, with Woods adding a shorthandedgoalto the tally with just over a minute left in the period to make it 4-1 going into intermission.

Toronto tried to put an offensive push on in the second, but were continually forced intoplayingdefensively by Notre Dame, and the Aeros were unable to notch another by the time the clock ran downon theperiod.

More and Woods combined for a third goal together, with More scoring the goal and both Woods andJuliaFlinton (Williams Lake, B.C.) credited with assists, to cap it off at 5-1 late in the third period.
