SCHOOL PROGRAM INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship School Program. Here you will find an overview of some of the exciting programming we will be offering starting in December 2012. TIMELINES:

December:  Online registration for the School Program opens:

- Hockey Day Program registration
- Adopt-a-Country contest

February (mid): Deadline for Adopt-a-Country contest submissions.

March (early): Contest winners announced.

LESSON PLANS:

Hockey-themed lesson plans will provide fun and interactive activities in a variety of curriculum areas, including literacy, numeracy, physical education, arts and social studies/history for the primary, junior and intermediate divisions. Teachers will be able to choose from English or French plans. Some plans will include rubrics to aid in assessment, and links to related websites.

HOCKEY DAY PROGRAM:

The Hockey Day program offers students from regional and local schools a once-in-a-lifetime field trip. Hockey Day will have activities in the morning, a lunch provided and access to watch a 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship game at Nepean Sportsplex or SBP Arena. Hockey Day will provide children with the opportunity to experience an international sporting event while incorporating an educational and interactive/physical component. Students will also get the chance to try floor ball.

The registration for the program will be on a first come basis. This program will range from $15 to $25 per student.

ADOPT A COUNTRY CONTEST:

The Adopt-a-Country contest is a chance for your class to adopt a 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship competing country (Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, United States). Learn something new about a one of the countries, cheer on a team, make them feel special and welcome them to our city and country. Make banners, posters, flags, t-shirts, videos or photos to submit. Use your imagination!

Prizes include:

  • Tickets to a Women’s Worlds game at Nepean Sportsplex or SBP Arena
  • Submissions presented to your adopted team
  • Submissions displayed in arenas

Contest rules and regulations will be available when the contest opens.

Wednesday, April 3, 2013 – 12 p.m. – Czech Republic vs. Russia @ Nepean Sportsplex

Friday, April 5, 2013 – 12 p.m. – Germany vs. Czech Republic @ Nepean Sportsplex*

Monday, April 8, 2013 – 11:30 a.m. – teams TBD @ SBP Arena, home of the Ottawa Senators
