O’DONNELL’S SNIPES PAIR DURING PEI WIN
Charlottetown, PEI – A large, enthusiastic crowd watched Team Prince Edward Island skate to its first
victory at the 2008 Esso Women’s Nationals on Tuesday night at the CARI Complex.
PEI, led by Kelsey O’Donnell’s (Souris, PEI/University of PEI, CIS) two goals, beat Team Manitoba 6-3 in
the second and final game on Day 1. It was the second straight thriller in Charlottetown, as earlier in the
day, New Brunswick edged Nova Scotia 4-3 in a shootout.
PEI made the most of its chances, scoring five goals on 13 shots. And the team’s goaltender, Elizabeth
Legay (Halifax, PEI/University of PEI, CIS), was solid throughout the game. Legay held PEI in it in the
second period, when she stopped all 19 shots she faced.
Legay made a total of 43 saves on 46 shots.
PEI’s other four goal scorers were Lyndsey Flynn (Charlottetown, PEI/Cornwall, IWHL), Danielle Boyce
(Summerside, PEI/University of Calgary, CIS), Jennifer Power (Montague, PEI/Ford’s Sharks) and Tracy Knowles
(Bathurst, NB/Cornwall, IWHL), who scored into an empty net.
Manitoba replied with goals by Aimee Collins (Pilot Mount, MB/Westmound Selects), Lauren MacMillan
(Winnipeg, MB/Herd) and Hailey Clarkson (Winnipeg, MB/Westman Selects). |
