PEI MAKES IT THREE IN A ROW AT ESSO NATIONALS Charlottetown, PEI – The home team has run the table in the round-robin. Team PEI, on the strength of three third-period goals, beat New Brunswick 4-1 on Thursday at the 2008 Esso Women’s Nationals. It was the host team’s third-straight win at the event. Kelsey O’Donnell (Souris, PEI/University of PEI), who leads the tournament in scoring with five goals and two assists, scored two goals in the final period, including the eventual game-winner at 2:24. PEI’s Emily Vandiepen (Kings County, Bantam AAA) opened the scoring at 2:11 and Melinda Kaye (Colpitts Settlement, MB/Saint Mary’s University, CIS) replied for New Brunswick at 14:50. Neither team scored in the second period. But PEI took control in the third, with O’Donnell’s goal making it 2-1 and Lindsay Manning’s (Cobourg, ON/University of PEI) marker at 16:41 making it 3-1. O’Donnell scored her second of the game at 19:17. New Brunswick will get a chance at revenge on Friday morning, as it will face PEI in a semi-final. New Brunswick (0-2-1-0) finished fourth and, thus, earns a game against PEI. The other semi-final has Nova Scotia (1-1-0-1) taking on Manitoba (1-2-0-0). Both games are at 9 a.m. AST at the CARI Complex.
