Game 22 of the tournament was one of importance for both teams, as a win would advance them to the semi-final game against Team Quebec on Saturday afternoon.

Ontario opened the scoring at 18:05 of the 1st when Hayley McMeekin scored on a three on one rush with assist going to Haley Irwin. Ontario continued to press and was rewarded again at 14:07 when Karen Rickard beat Hobbs off the rebound. Susan Hobson and Jennifer Butsh assisted on the goal.

Susan Hobson gave Ontario a 3 to o lead at 8: 32 with helpers going to Rickard and Cheryl Pounder.

The Team Ontario squad out shot New Brunswick 23 to 4 and the score could have been higher but Emily Hobbs made some great saves to keep it close.

The second period saw Team New Brunswick capitalize on the power play while Ontario’s Jennifer Botterill served a minor for cross-checking. Robin Thompson was rewarded for her Efforts when she beat Kendra Fisher from the slot on a perfectly placed wrist shot.

Ontario continued to play smart hockey and found the net again at 9:03 while New Brunswick s Nathalie Pellerin was serving her 2nd minor of the game. Susan Hobson got the powerplay goal from Bradi Cochrane and Rutsh.

Cheryl Pounder set up at beautiful goal at 00.36 when she handled the puck of the boards and feed a picture perfect pass to Hayley McMeekin who notched the 5th goal for Team Ontario. Ontario netted their sixth goal with 1.1 second’s left in the 2nd when Lauren McAuliffe took a lead pass from Botterill to go up 6-1 at the end of the 2nd period.

New Brunswick was not ready to quit and on their eighth shot of the game the scored when Isabelle Aube fired home the 2nd goal for NB off a pass from Thompson and Chelsea Gilbert.

Throughout this period Emily Hobbs had kept the game from becoming a walk-away for Ontario as she made several spectacular saves. Ontario did keep the pressure on and notched goal number 7 at 11:18 when Heather Logan scored her 1st of the game from McMeekin and Goalie Kendra Fisher who had smartly played the puck up ice.

Isabelle Aube got her 2nd goal of the night when she intercepted an errant pass at he Ontario blueline and broke in alone on Fisher and buried the puck on Fishers stick side.

Heather Logan with her 2nd of the game rounded out the scoring at 4:09 and with the 8th goal for Ontario ended the game and ensured Team Ontario Host a match up with Quebec in the Semi Finals.

Game Honors went to Ontario’s Allison Edgar and to New Brunswick Goalie Emily Hobbs.
