2006 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Quebec 4 – Czech Republic 2

By Keith Borkowsky

REGINA – A three-goal third period gave Quebec a 4-2 come-from-behind win over the Czech Republic in Wednesday exhibition play at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

With Quebec trailing 2-1 for much of its Wednesday exhibition game against the Czech Republic, Marshall’s move allowed him to come in on goalie Tomas Vosvrda. He fired short side, and beat him for a 3-2 lead and the game-winning goal.

Keven Guerette-Charland later chipped in an insurance goal with Marc-Antoine Desnoyers assisting.

Michael Stinziani one-timed an Angelo Esposito pass from the corner for both player’s second point of the contest. It also allowed Quebec to tie the game at two, midway through the third period.

Quebec carried the play early in the first period, and was rewarded by Stinziani’s early marker. He slid the puck underneath starting Czech net minder Marek Benda 7:12 into the contest. Angelo Esposito assisted.

But the Czechs rebounded with a pair of opportunistic goals before the first period ended. Marek Indra slithered a puck under Quebec starting goaltender Nicola Riopel to even the game at one at 16:48. Petr Stoklasa and Petr Kafka picked up assists.

The Czechs took advantage of a Riopel miscue less than two minutes later, giving Martin Paryzek a power-play goal, and the Czechs a 2-1 lead. Tomas Hajek and Indra assisted.

While neither side found the net in the second frame, it wasn’t from a lack of effort.

A turnover deep in the Czech zone gave Esposito a clear chance. Maxime Cliché had Quebec’s best chance with 2:30 left in the period, when his one-timer deep in the slot tested net minder Tomas Vosvrda.

The Czech goaltending tandem faced 27 shots. Vosvrda’s efforts in the second-half of the contest were solid.
