2011 World Sport School Challenge

Finland 8 - Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy 1

LEHKONEN’S FOUR POINTS LEAD FINLAND TO FIRST-EVER WSSC WIN

CALGARY, Alta. – Artturi Lehkonen and Jonatan Tanus began the inaugural World Sport School Challenge on a torrid pace, with four and three points respectively, as they led Finland’s national under-17 team to a convincing 8-1 win over the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy in the first-ever WSSC game.

Finland came out firing in the first period, outshooting POE 12-2, but thanks to the solid play of goaltender Matt Mitchell, POE escaped the period with only a 1-0 deficit on a goal from Mikke Levo.

The second period was much of the same, as Finland outshot POE 12-4 and Artturi Lehkonen added two goals 22 seconds apart to put Finland up 3-0. Mitchell had another strong period and it served as inspiration for his team, as Dylan Bowen scored a late second period goal to put POE on the board.

The third period was all Finland, as it got goals from five different players in the last 10 minutes to round out the scoring, while outshooting POE 23-6 in the period and 47-12 overall.

Finland will look to continue its dominance when it faces Okanagan Hockey Academy in the feature game on Tuesday (5 p.m. MT), while Pursuit of Excellence will look to rebound against the hometown Edge School (5 p.m. MT).
