Toronto, Ont., to host 2013 World Sledge Hockey Challenge

CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada announced Thursday that Toronto, Ont., will host the 2013 World Sledge Hockey Challenge, Dec. 1-7 at the MasterCard Centre. Canada’s National Sledge Team will be joined by Japan, Russia and the United States for the tournament.

Canada was silver medallist at the 2012 World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Calgary, dropping a 1-0 decision to the United States in the gold medal game. Overall, Canada has won four gold medals in six tries at the tournament, while never finishing worse than silver.

“We are excited about getting back to game action in Toronto,” said Mike Mondin, head coach of Canada’s National Sledge Team. “The World Sledge Hockey Challenge is one of the biggest events in our sport, and it’s sure to be a great week on the road to the Paralympics.”

Tickets are now on sale for the 2013 World Sledge Hockey Challenge. A six-game Team Canada package is available for just $35, including all three of Canada’s preliminary round games, Canada’s semifinal game, the bronze medal game and gold medal game. Fans will be able to follow the 2013 World Sledge Hockey Challenge via webcast thanks to Hockey Canada and FASTHockey. All games, except for the gold medal game, will be available at hockeycanada.fasthockey.com.

The gold medal game, which will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. ET, will be shown on TSN and RDS, the official broadcasters of Hockey Canada. Check local listings for broadcast times in your area.
