ST. JOHN’S, N.L. – Hockey Canada, in partnership with Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador and the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, announced on Friday the schedule for the 2011 TELUS Cup, which will be held at Mile One Centre in St. John’s from April 18-24, 2011.

The TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Midget Championship, will return to Newfoundland and Labrador for the first time since 1989, making St. John’s the first city to host the tournament twice in its 41-year history. The event kicks off on with three games on the schedule, including the host St. John’s Pennecon Privateers taking on the Atlantic Region champions.

The gold medal game will be held April 26 at 4 p.m. NT and will be shown on TSN/RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcasters. All other games at the tournament, including both semifinals and the bronze medal game, will be available through FASTHockey at hockeycanada.fasthockey.com for just $7 per game.

“The TELUS Cup is one of Canada’s most prestigious national championships, and we are thrilled to welcome some of Canada’s top young players to St. John’s,” said Jack Casey, chair of the 2011 TELUS Cup host committee. “It has been a special year for hockey in our province, and this will be a great way to cap it off.”

Just in time for the holiday season, the host committee has unveiled a special ticket package, offering a full-tournament pass, which includes all 19 games, for just $49 (plus applicable fees). The package will be offered from December 11-31; a full-tournament ticket package will be available for $69 as of .

It was also announced on Friday that Ted Purcell and Luke Adam, both of whom represented St. John’s at the National Midget Championship, will be ambassadors for the event. Purcell, who played in the event in 2003, currently plays for the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning, while Adam, a 2006 TELUS Cup alumnus who won silver with Canada’s National Junior Team at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship, made his NHL debut earlier this season with the Buffalo Sabres.

“Both Ted and Luke have fond memories from their National Midget Championship experiences,” said Casey. “We’re excited to have them on board as ambassadors for the 2011 TELUS Cup, to help build excitement in the city for the tournament.”

The 2011 TELUS Cup is the third and final event held in Newfoundland and Labrador during the 2010-11 season to help celebrate the 75th anniversary of Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador. Last August, Canada’s National Junior Team held its summer development camp at Mile One Centre, while the top four women’s teams in the world – Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States – took part in the 2010 4 Nations Cup in St. John’s and Clarenville in early November.
