TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – SPRUCE GROVE SAINTS
Another year, another Dave Duchak Trophy for the Spruce Grove Saints’ trophy case. The Saints won their fifth AJHL regular season championship in the last seven years – and their seventh consecutive North Division title – by holding off the Camrose Kodiaks by just a single point in a two-team race. Spruce Grove was among the top teams in every category; it had the No. 1 offence (254 goals), No. 1 defence (121 goals against), No. 2 power play (22.5%), No. 1 penalty kill (87.9%), No. 1 home record (24-2-4) and No. 2 road record (24-5-1). The Saints were absolutely dominant when the calendar turned to 2015, going a perfect 12-0 in January as part of an 18-game winning streak from Dec. 13-Feb. 7. Jarid Hauptman paced the Spruce Grove offence, finishing second in the AJHL with 76 points (25-51—76), one of 11 Saints skaters to reach double-digits in goals, and one of eight with at least 30 points. The goaltending tandem of Matthew Murray (1.72) and Brett Zarowny (1.95) had the only two sub-2.00 goals-against averages in the league, helping Spruce Grove allow a league-low 121 goals.
