CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada announced Thursday that Kamloops, B.C., will host the 2014 4 Nations Cup, bringing four of the top women’s hockey nations in the world to the Interior Savings Centre from Nov. 4-8, 2014.

Canada’s National Women’s Team will be joined by Finland, Sweden and the United States in Kamloops, known as Canada’s Tournament Capital. It will be the first major international women’s hockey event following the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.

Finland and the United States will play the tournament’s first game on Nov. 4, with Canada seeing its first action that night against Sweden. The bronze medal game and gold medal game are scheduled for Nov. 8.

“Kamloops has a history of hosting events that is second-to-none in Canada, and we could not be more excited that the city will play host to the 4 Nations Cup nine months from now,” said Dean McIntosh, director of events and properties for Hockey Canada. “We’re expecting a terrific tournament to start off another Olympic cycle for our women’s team.”

“An event of this magnitude will bring international attention to Kamloops yet again,” said Kamloops Mayor Peter Milobar. “Our volunteers, community support and our facilities give us a competitive edge, and we prove time and time again that we are capable of hosting every type of sporting event.”

The 2014 4 Nations Cup will mark the sixth time Canada will play host to the event, with Kamloops joining Ottawa and Cornwall, Ont. (1996), Montreal, Que. (1999), Kitchener, Ont. (2002 and 2006), and St. John’s and Clarenville, N.L. (2010) as Canadian hosts.

Canada’s National Women’s Team has won the gold medal at the 4 Nations Cup on 13 occasions (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2013) since the first tournament in 1996.
