PRINCE GEORGE – The Host Committee for the 2007 RBC Royal Bank Cup is gearing up to host the nation in May 2007. Today, the committee welcomed its first major local sponsor for the National Junior A Hockey Championship in Prince George.

“Today, we are delighted to welcome James Western Star Sterling Ltd. as a gold level sponsor for the 2007 RBC Royal Bank Cup in Prince George,” says Don Kehler, Co Chair of the Host Committee. “With the support of James Western Star Sterling, we are one step closer to hosting the best ever RBC Royal Bank Cup,” Kehler adds.

Host Committee Co Chair Dan Rogers says the committee is very close to securing a number of other major sponsors and expects to have more announcements in the near future. “Northern BC is passionate about hockey and we have found a number of community-minded organizations that are excited about aligning themselves with this great national championship,” says Rogers.

With the RBC Royal Bank Cup a little more than one year away, the committee is working hard to ensure the 2007 event is the best ever in the event’s history. “We are in the process of building our volunteer committees and going through the planning that hosting this type of major event requires,” says Rogers. “We are confident that we will achieve our mission of hosting the best ever RBC Royal Bank Cup.”

Tickets for the 2007 RBC Royal Bank Cup went on sale to the general public March 1, and the committee is pleased with sales to date. “Already we have sold nearly 400 packages, which is fantastic for an event that’s more than a year away,” says Rogers. The 2007 RBC Royal Bank Cup National Junior A Hockey Championship will take place May 5-13, 2007 in Prince George. It is expected to draw hockey fans from across the country, with the final game televised live on TSN. The impact of this event for the local economy is estimated to be close to $1 million.
