TORONTO, Ont.. - Hockey Canada has announced that Wendel Clark, Marc Denis, Martin Lapointe and Gary Roberts have been named honorary captains for the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, to be held Dec. 26, 2014 to Jan. 5, 2015 in Toronto, Ont., and Montreal, Que. All four players represented Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship.

Wendel Clark, 47, won a gold medal with Canada’s National Junior Team at the 1985 IIHF World Junior Championship in Finland. He was selected with the first-overall pick in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team he spent 13 of his 18 NHL seasons with. He also spent time with Quebec, the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay, Detroit and Chicago. Clark played in two NHL All-Star Games, in 1986 and 1999, and currently works with the Maple Leafs as a community ambassador.

Marc Denis, 36, won two gold medals for Canada’s National Junior Team, in 1996 in Boston, Mass., and 1997 in Geneva, Switzerland, compiling a record of 7-0-2 in two years, and was named the tournament’s top goaltender in 1997. He also represented Canada twice at the IIHF World Championship, in 2004 and 2006. Denis was a first-round selection of the Colorado Avalanche, 25th overall in 1995, and played 349 games over 13 NHL seasons with Colorado, Columbus, Tampa Bay and Montreal. He currently works as an analyst for RDS.

Martin Lapointe, 40, represented Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship on three occasions, in 1991, 1992 and 1993. He won gold medals in 1991 in Saskatoon, Sask., and captained the 1993 team to the gold medal in Gävle, Sweden. Lapointe was a first-round selection of the Detroit Red Wings, 10th overall in 1991, and amassed 991 career NHL games with Detroit, Boston, Chicago and Ottawa. He won two Stanley Cup championships, with Detroit in 1997 and 1998, and currently is the director of player development for the Montreal Canadiens.

Gary Roberts, 47, won a silver medal with Canada’s National Junior Team at the 1986 tournament in Hamilton, Ont. The Calgary Flames selected Roberts in the first-round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft, 12th overall, and played 1,224 games over 21 NHL seasons with Calgary, Carolina, Toronto, Florida, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay. Roberts won the Stanley Cup with Calgary in 1989 and played in three NHL All-Star Games, in 1992, 1993 and 2004. Roberts was awarded the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy in 1996 for his perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
