Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team advances to gold medal game at 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship

SOCHI, Russia – Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team has earned a place in the semifinals at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World U18 Championship after a 6-0 win over the Czech Republic in Thursday’s quarter-finals.

Canada will play its semifinal against Finland in Sochi on Friday at 8 a.m. ET/5 a.m. PT, a game which can be seen live on TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcasters. Check your local listings for broadcast times in your area.

On Thursday, Connor McDavid (Newmarket, Ont./Erie, OHL) scored his second hat trick in as many games to lead Canada to the semifinals for the third year in a row at the world championship. Sam Reinhart (West Vancouver, B.C./Kootenay, WHL), Nick Baptiste (Ottawa, Ont./Sudbury, OHL) and Laurent Dauphin (Repentigny, Que./Chicoutimi, QMJHL) had the other Canadian goals, while Philippe Desrosiers (St-Hyacinthe, Que./Rimouski, QMJHL) made 18 saves for his second consecutive shutout.

Canada finished first in Group B in the preliminary round with a perfect 4-0 record, recording victories over Slovakia (4-1), Germany (3-1), Switzerland (10-1) and Sweden (6-0).

Canada is attempting to win its third gold medal at the IIHF Ice Hockey World U18 Championship, having previously taken home the top prize in 2003 in Yaroslavl, Russia, and 2008 in Kazan, Russia.

TSN/RDS, the official broadcasters of Hockey Canada, will broadcast Canada’s semifinal on Friday, April 26 and both medal games on Sunday, April 28. Check your local listings for game times in your area.
