Moncton hosting 25 delegates from Canada and around the world at Hockey Canada Level VI Officiating Seminar
Seminar prepares top officials for highest levels of competition
CALGARY, Alta. – Moncton is hosting Hockey Canada’s top-level officiating seminar this week, with attending delegates coming from across the country and around the world.
Twenty-one officials from across Canada and four international delegates are on Day 2 of the Hockey Canada Level VI Officiating Seminar, which runs through Nov. 8. The seminar prepares top officials in Canada for national championship assignments and designated IIHF competitions. "Canada has always been a top provider of quality-level officials," said Lance Roberts, referee-in-chief with Hockey Canada. "This begins with the Hockey Canada Officiating Program, an instruction program that is the envy of other hockey nations around the world." Level VI seminars are held based on a national need for Level VI officials. The last Hockey Canada Level VI Officiating Seminar was held in Terrebonne, Que., in 2013. Hockey Canada’s senior manager of officiating is responsible for the organization of the site and program, establishing criteria and reviewing the candidates’ qualifications. Candidates have been nominated by Hockey Canada’s 13 branches and are already fully-certified Level V officials. An established selection committee reviewed all the candidates and selected those in attendance in Moncton. The instruction will be handled by, among others, Hockey Canada referee-in-chief Lance Roberts, Hockey Canada senior manager of officiating, Todd Anderson, and Hockey Canada Referee Committee members Doug Hayward and Kevin Muench. Guest instructors are also presenting at the seminar. Hockey Canada’s Female Level V Seminar is being conducted in conjunction with this year’s Level VI Officiating Seminar, and boasts two Canadian officials and one international delegate.
