What was the most impressive part of the Carleton Place Canadians’ fifth-straight regular-season championship in the CCHL? The record-tying 110 points? The 53 wins, one back of their own record? The 14-game win streak from Oct. 1 to Nov. 5? The 29-1-1 home-ice record? Or allowing a ridiculous 105 goals in 62 games, just 1.69 goals per contest? Why not all of it? The Canadians were the class of the CCHL again in 2017-18, finishing 11 points up on Ottawa, which will host the Fred Page Cup in late April. The strength was the defence and goaltender Jérémie Forget, who led the league in wins (35), goals-against average (1.48), save percentage (.936) and shutouts (7). The offence also finished atop the CCHL, with Samuel Knoblauch, the league’s No. 2 scorer, leading a list of four Canadians in the top 11.
