TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – REGINA PAT CANADIANS
It was another season atop the SMAAAHL standings for the Regina Pat Canadians, who made it back-to-back regular season titles by holding off the hard-charging Notre Dame Hounds (who lost just twice in regulation after the calendar flipped to 2017). The Pat Canadians did most of their damage in the middle of their schedule, running off 13 consecutive wins from Nov. 24 to Jan. 8 to build a lead that could withstand a three-game losing streak in the final weeks of the season. Regina was strong at both ends of the ice, leading the league in goals for (193) and goals against (81). Lukas Sillinger – brother of 2015 TELUS Cup MVP Owen Sillinger – paced the SMAAAHL with 78 points, recording at least one in 16 of his last 17 games, including three five-point efforts. In goal, Dean McNabb and Nathan Moore posted identical 18-4 records, with McNabb led all netminders with a 1.64 goals-against average and five shutouts.
