QUEBEC CITY, Que. – The preliminary-round match-ups and game times are set for the 2017 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in Quebec City, scheduled for Nov. 1-5 at ExpoCité’s Pavillon de la jeunesse.

The full event schedule, featuring the host team from Quebec opening its tournament against Manitoba at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, sees all eight teams take part in three days of preliminary-round action to determine which four teams will move on to the semifinals, slated for Nov. 4 at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. ET.

“For the first time ever, the City of Quebec will host the National Women’s Under-18 Championship. Under the slogan I’ll remember Quebec, our team of dedicated volunteers has made every effort to ensure that this event becomes an unforgettable experience for both participants and visitors,” said Camille Bernier, chair of the local organizing committee of the 2017 National Women’s Under-18 Championship. “I invite you to come and see the best Canadian female players under the age of 18 in action as they go for gold at this national championship. These players are our national team’s future; be part of those who can say ‘I saw her play in Quebec City in 2017.’”

The National Women’s Under-18 Championship is a result of the collaboration between Hockey Canada, and this year’s hosts, Hockey Quebec and the local host organizing committee.

“We have the opportunity to welcome to our beautiful provincial capital the National Women’s Under-18 Championship,” said Paul Ménard, executive director of Hockey Quebec. “I am thrilled to invite you, on behalf of Hockey Quebec, our dedicated volunteers, staff, and board of directors, to support and cheer on our best young players from the province and across Canada as they go for gold. We’re proud of the high level of talent and skill that exists amongst Quebec’s female hockey players. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of the event’s participants the best of luck.”

As in past years, the gold-medal game will be broadcast by TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s broadcast partners, and is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT on Sunday, Nov. 5.

The national championship, which began in 2001, features eight teams from across the country: Alberta, Atlantic, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario Blue, Ontario Red, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.

The 2017 National Women’s Under-18 Championship will bring together teams made up of the best female hockey players born in 2000 or later. The tournament serves as an important platform for Hockey Canada scouts who evaluate candidates for the Canadian contingent that will compete at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship, as well as at other international events.

Historically, the event has netted more than $1.5 million in economic impact for the host region, and as with all Hockey Canada events, net proceeds are redirected to support the growth of the game locally.

Ticket packages for the event are available online for $45.

A number of Canadian women’s hockey stars have competed at the National Women’s Under-18 Championship, including two-time Olympic gold-medallist Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville, Que.), who is the tournament’s all-time leading scorer with 30 points in 15 games.
