Canada to Face Slovakia in Quarter-Finals at 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship
HELSINKI, Finland – Canada has advanced to the quarter-finals at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, on the strength of a six win, one overtime loss record in the preliminary round, giving the Canadians first place in the Helsinki Group. Canada defeated Belarus 5-1 earlier Tuesday in its final game of the round robin.
Ryan O’Reilly (Clinton, Ont./Colorado, NHL) scored twice against Belarus, while Duncan Keith (Penticton, B.C./Chicago, NHL) added two assists and Cam Ward (Sherwood Park, Alta./Carolina, NHL) made 17 saves to earn his fourth win.
Canada will now face Slovakia in the quarter-finals on May 17 at 1 p.m. (Helsinki time)/6 a.m. ET, with the winner advancing to the semifinals against the winner of the Sweden/Czech Republic quarter-final, which will be played later on May 17 in Stockholm.
All of Canada’s games, all four quarter-finals, both semifinals and the medal games will be broadcast on TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcasters. Check your local listings for details in your area.
