Canada's National Men's Under-18 Team Advances to Semifinal at 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World U18 Championship
BRNO, Czech Republic – Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team has earned a place in the semifinal at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World U18 Championship, after a 4-2 win over Russia in the quarter-final.
Kerby Rychel scored twice, Matt Dumba and Felix Girard added singles while Matt Murray made 28 saves for the win, avenging a bronze medal game loss to the Russians at last year’s event.
Canada will play the United States in Brno on Friday, April 20 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT, a game which can be seen live on TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcasters (check your local listings). With a win, Canada would advance to the gold medal game on Sunday.
Canada is attempting to win its third gold medal at the IIHF Ice Hockey World U18 Championship, having previously taken home the top prize in 2003 in Yaroslavl, Russia, and 2008 in Kazan, Russia.
