Canada’s National Junior Team will go retro with its limited edition third jersey at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship, going with a look that harkens back to the early days of the Program of Excellence.

The new jersey features an updated version of the three-leaf logo worn by Team Canada at World Juniors from 1982 in Minnesota, when Canada won its first-ever gold medal at the tournament, to 1994 in the Czech Republic, when the Canadians claimed the second of what would be five gold medals in a row.

The three maple leafs on the front of the jersey represent the three steps of the Program of Excellence, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year – the regional under-17 program, National Men’s Under-18 Team and National Junior Team.

In addition, the bottom trim includes a graphic that incorporates the logos from each of the 15 IIHF World Junior Championships that Canada has won since 1982, and the current Hockey Canada logo appears on each shoulder.

The limited edition commemorative jersey goes on sale Nov. 1 at Nike stores, SportChek locations and Team Canada retailers across Canada, for $140. The jersey will also be available online at www.hockeycanada.ca.
